1. Horizon Academic Research Program (HARP)

Application Date: Multiple deadlines throughout the year for the Spring, Summer and Fall cohorts.
Program Dates: The spring and fall cohorts run 15 weeks, while the summer cohort runs 10 weeks (June-September).
Eligibility: High school students with good academic standing (>3.67/4.0 GPA) can apply. Most accepted students are 10th/11th graders! A few tracks require prerequisites, see here.
Horizon offers trimester-long research programs for high school students across subject areas such as data science, machine learning, political theory, and more! Horizon is one of the few research programs for high school students that offers you the choice to engage in either quantitative or qualitative research. Once you select a particular subject track, Horizon pairs you with a professor/PhD scholar who acts as a mentor throughout your research journey. As a participant, you will be expected to develop a 20-page research paper that you can send to prestigious journals for publication as a high school student. 3. Coriell Summer Experience for High School Students

The Coriell Summer Experience offers high school students a hands-on exposure to careers in science and biotechnology. You will work alongside professional scientists in Production Laboratories, Stem Cell Labs, or Molecular Biology Labs, learning techniques like DNA extraction, karyotyping, and biobank sample management. You will also attend weekly Scientific Seminars, engage in small-group career workshops led by Coriell Human Resources, and develop presentation and professional skills in the process. At the end of the program, you will deliver a formal PowerPoint presentation to Coriell staff and peers, highlighting your learning and research experiences.
4. Liberty Science Center’s Partners in Science

5. Princeton University’s Laboratory Learning Program (LLP)

At LLP, you will engage in a full-time, hands-on research experience in the sciences or engineering alongside Princeton faculty and research staff. The program focuses on offering hands-on research experience and mentorship to high schoolers in a professional lab environment. You will contribute to ongoing projects, gaining exposure to authentic laboratory work while developing technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You will learn about lab safety practices, conduct experiments, and complete and submit a two-page research summary at the conclusion of your project.
6. Veritas AI’s AI Fellowship

10. High School Biomedical Scholars Program @ Rowan University

You will also have the opportunity to participate in the Human Gross Anatomy Lab or choose an alternative learning experience. 11. George Mason University’s Aspiring Scientists Summer Internship Program (ASSIP)

ASSIP at George Mason University provides high school students with the opportunity to engage in STEM research under the guidance of faculty mentors. A core component of the program is a team-based research project, for which you will work with mentors to solve complex engineering problems and present your findings at a symposium. The experience also includes industry site visits, guest lectures from top researchers, and enrichment activities designed to build both technical and life skills. 13. Ocean County Historical Society’s High School Community Service Program

Over two summers, you will commit to about 35 hours a week in a Rutgers lab, conducting research under faculty supervision and presenting your findings at the Annual Research Day. The program also includes monthly workshops, seminars, and community engagement activities designed to build your skills as a future biomedical researcher. You will be compensated for your time while gaining a guided research experience that can help you prepare for a career in cancer science and healthcare.
