If you’re a high schooler looking to gain some experience in data science, summer programs are a solid way to do so!

These programs, often offered by private organizations or universities, offer a unique opportunity to develop advanced skill sets, gain hands-on experience, and explore specific subject areas.

Below is a curated list of the top 12 data science programs tailored for high schoolers in 2024-2025.

Horizon offers trimester-long research programs for high school students across subject areas such as data science, machine learning, political theory, biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, and more! It is one of the very few research programs for high school students that offers a choice between quantitative and qualitative research!

Once you select a particular subject track and type of research you’ll be paired with a professor or Ph.D. scholar (from a top university) who will mentor you throughout your research journey. You’ll work to create a 20-page, university-level research paper that you can send to prestigious journals for publication as a high school student.

Columbia Engineering Data Analytics Boot Camp is committed to preparing our online data analytics learners for success. The course prioritizes three pillars: Structured Flexibility, Innovative Instruction, and Real-World Projects. The curriculum covers relevant tools and technologies including Intermediate Excel, Python, JavaScript, HTML5/CSS, API Interactions, SQL, Tableau, Fundamental Statistics, Machine Learning, Git/GitHub, and more. Projects align with real-world datasets from various industry data fields like Finance Services, Human Resources, Healthcare, and Government.

You will receive an Award of Completion from Columbia Engineering from our Online Data Analytics Boot Camp after studying part-time for over 24 weeks.

This program offers a 10-week, paid research opportunity focused on applied, interdisciplinary data science research. Participants are paired with a data science mentor—typically a professor—who guides them through the development of their research skills and the application of data science methodologies.

Throughout the program, students will explore a range of topics across various domains, including computer science, data science, social science, climate and energy policy, public policy, and more. Under the mentorship of experienced researchers, students will hone their abilities in research methodologies, data science practices, and collaborative work. Veritas AI is an AI and data science program founded and run by Harvard and Oxford graduate students. Students can learn the fundamentals of data science and AI in small groups by working on real-world, hands-on projects. Recently, a new data science track was added, allowing students to complete self-paced coursework and earn beginner and intermediate certificates in data science.

Participants will develop technical skills that prepare them for future careers in the tech industry while also gaining exposure to industry jobs, connecting with leaders in the field, and building a supportive network within an all-female environment.
